At Wyre Forest Hockey Club we have 2 teams. However our ethos is that we play for the club not a team.
With the current size of the club it is really important for players to put themselves available for as many games as possible to give the captains the best possible chance to field two full teams and to arrange the selection of the teams in good time.
The first priority for selection for Wyre Forest Hockey Club is that everyone who wants to play hockey gets to play hockey. This means that if a player puts their availability for the weekend as only able to play one game they are likely to be picked for that game. From the available players who can play multiple games in a day the rest of the teams will be chosen at the captains' discretion and to the best of their abilities to make the strongest teams for the matches based on the predicted level for the upcoming games.
For occasions where doubling up is possible and necessary to field two full teams, a request will be put out to the club as a whole to ask for volunteers. If multiple players volunteer the decision will be made based on who the captains feel will fit their desired team layout best.
If changes need to be made after the team selection has gone out because a player's availability changes, a request will be put out to the club as a whole to ask for volunteers able to move teams. Again, if multiple players volunteer the final decision will be made by the captains. The team squads may be very changeable over the season and players may move between teams due to who can play when and what sort of tactics the captains believe will work best for the upcoming games. Any queries about team selection or squad choice please get in touch with either of the captains, the Coach or Welfare Officer.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
