Wyre Forest Ladies Hockey Club was born from a group of friends who wanted to play competitive hockey, but struggled with busy lifestyles; requiring flexibility to play in order to balance work and childcare commitments.
With support from England Hockey, the club was formed in September 2018 and attracted enough new members to create a solid squad – some of whom had never touched a hockey stick prior to joining. The club dominated the third division and ended the season in third place which was a huge achievement for a brand new club.
Following this success, the club was awarded Sports England funding to help it grow, and went on to finish top of the league in the 2019/20 season. Four years after its inception, it was decided to rename the club to Wyre Forest Hockey Club (WFHC) to be more inclusive, and be ready for additional factions in future.
Since 2021, the club moved forward with a development team to accommodate all members. This is now an official second team!
Our success on the pitch can be attributed to strong friendships off the pitch. We have an active, family-friendly social calendar and frequent informal meet-ups. The benefits of team sports on mental health is widely documented, and many of our players find the club to be a great outlet for stress, combining fitness and fun with a strong support network of like-minded people from a wide range of backgrounds.
We aim to develop our players and continue this success without compromising on our supportive ethos. We understand that due to other commitments, people may not be able to make every training session or every match – with WFHC you can still be involved.
